THE JOURNEY
Beginning
Curiosity of how things worked captured Hemu Karkera’s mind since childhood. As he grew up he discovered the mind to be the most fascinating territory. He found the mind to be the source from which man’s creation sprang forth. He wondered that if man could create riches from the mind, could man also create losses & misery from the mind?
Was there something called fate? He argued that if fate had absolute power over us then it meant that we had no choice and if we had no choice then why should we work or for that matter initiate anything?
Preparation
This quest led him on a fascinating journey, at a very young age, to understand the mind and its workings. He devoured books and literature which even remotely touched the subject of the mind. The search continued even as he completed Engineering in Electronics with distinction, Diploma in Business Management & Diploma in Industrial Administration.
While being employed by a company which manufactured and sold capital goods to Steel, Cement, Fertilizer, Explosives, Minerals & Glass plants all over the country, Hemu Karkera was exposed to Transactional Analysis, EST, Gestalt Therapy & Parity Pairing. He understood that behaviour was influenced by perceptions. This understanding directed him to religion. Religion, he diagnosed, was primarily in the business of changing perceptions. But religion he thought, at that time, did not have a scientific base. The scientific community did not have any explanation as to how exposure to religion altered perceptions. What actually changed in the mind? The answer was many years away.
As he continued to work as Technical Assistant to the Head of Electronics he learnt the intricacies and management of R & D, Production, Planning, Administration, Q.C & Purchase. He was then given a team of engineers and asked to look after Sales & Marketing in the territory which comprised half the country. After five years of him being employed, he resigned his job to start his own Advertising Agency.
On the surface it may have seemed like an illogical quantum leap but in reality it was not so. To the deep yet powerful undercurrent of desire to know the mind, it was very much a logical step. Advertising is the business of creating & altering perceptions. Mind Magic was at play here.

became a Filmmaker; writing, directing and editing corporate, ad and training films.
Yet the fascination for the mind did not leave him.He was intrigued by Hypnosis. He became a certified Hypnotist helping people to overcome difficulties in self behaviour and illness through hypnosis. And then NLP happened.
NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming scientifically explained the mechanics of the mind. How were perceptions formed? What is the structure of behaviour? How perceptions became beliefs and how beliefs affected our behaviour? That was the defining moment as they say when it all clicked. Hemu knew then why religion was highly successful in changing perceptions. How religious devices are used as powerful mind tools to create change. For the first time he could scientifically explain what religion did to our minds. In 2001 he did his Basic and Masters in NLP and two years later became a Certified Trainer in NLP from the National Federation of NLP, USA.
He thereafter delved deep into the science of NLP experimenting & experiencing. During this sojourn he came across literature, talks and ideas from the masters in this field. He found that many people had difficulty in relating to or grasping the concepts of NLP. Some said it was intangible, some said it was too jargonistic and some said it was too difficult to practice. He then put together a workshop which cut out the jargons, had a very simple approach, was tangible, was easy to use and yet had the power to alter perceptions, attitudes and behaviour. This he called the Core Empowerment Technique.
In 2002 he sold his advertising business to become a full time Trainer.
Today, Hemu Karkera has trained more than 20,800 people in India and abroad.
